Virdie Marie Wells, 94, of Drakesboro, died Wednesday, December 7, 2022 at her home after a short illness. Born January 11, 1928 in Muhlenberg County, the daughter of Jessie Mayes and Mossie Joines Mayes. She was a housewife and a homemaker. She enjoyed gardening and caring for her children and grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John Henry Wells; one son Johnny Wells, Jr.; four daughters Louise Paige, Josephine Hope, Ruby Jean Wells, Kathryn Juanita Wells; four brothers Henry Mayes, Jay Mayes, Georgie Mayes, and Frankie Mayes; and one sister Becky Colonial.
Survivors include her daughters, Marie “Cotton” Wells of Drakesboro, Linda (Jerry) Boggess of Bremen, and Krystal (Michael) Music of Drakesboro; eleven grandchildren; twenty-three great grandchildren; sisters, Barbara Stanley of Greenville and Magdalene Curtis of Gary, Ind.
Funeral services will be Sunday, December 11 at 2:00 p.m. at Gary’s Funeral Home in Greenville, with Rev. Curtis McGehee officiating. Burial will follow in Ebenezer Church Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 10 and on Sunday from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Gary’s Funeral Home in Greenville.
