Muhlenberg County High School’s Marching Mustangs are off to a great start this year, with three contests under their belt heading into the Muhlenberg Marching Classic this Saturday, Sept. 30 at Mustang Stadium in Greenville.
The full evening of marching band competition will feature eight marching bands as well as an exhibition performance by the Marching Mustangs at 8:30 p.m. Campbellsville University’s Tiger Marching Band will also make a guest appearance at the end of the evening.
Recognition of the band’s seniors will begin at 5:30 p.m. with marching beginning at 6:30 p.m.
Marching in the Class AAAA-1, the Marching Mustangs took first place in their first contest of the year, held at Franklin-Simpson High School on Sept. 9. The band also placed first for best color guard, and best percussion, and placed third overall in the competition.
A mixed-class contest in Ohio County on Sept. 16 saw the band take Grand Reserve Champions, nudged out of first by Murray High School by just two points.
This past Saturday, Sept. 23 the band marched at Logan County, winning overall Grand Champions as well as first place in Class AAAA, against two Bowling Green area schools, South Warren and Greenwood. The color guard placed first in Class AAAA, and the band took home the Spirit Award.
The Marching Classic will bring bands from near and far to compete throughout the evening at Mustang Stadium, on campus at Muhlenberg County High School. The Marching Mustangs will perform this year’s routine, called “Wednesday” named for the quirky, cool character in the Addams Family, and popular recent Netflix reboot named after the the character.
Admission is $10 and kids ages 6 and under get in free. Come out and support the Marching Mustangs and enjoy an evening of marching competition.
