High friction surface treatments are being applied to reduce crashes
To improve safety on local roadways, a contractor working for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is applying a high friction surface treatment to portions of KY 189 and US 62 in Muhlenberg County this week, resulting in temporary lane restrictions for up to two weeks.
High friction surface treatments are pavement treatments designed to increase friction in potentially high crash areas, resulting in motorists being able to maintain better control in both wet and dry driving conditions.
A research report published by the Federal Highway Administration suggests that high-friction surface treatments reduce wet crashes by as much as 83% and total crashes by 57%.
Truesdell Corporation will be applying the surface treatments to a 0.07-mile segment of US 62 (Everly Brothers Blvd) in Central City around the 16-mile mark, near Walmart, and on a 0.23-mile section of KY 189 (Robert L. Draper Way) in Greenville at the 11-mile mark, near the North Main Street intersection.
The project, with a total cost of $195,195, is expected to be completed within two weeks. Motorists should prepare for lane restrictions during this period.
