Muhlenberg Community Theatre Inc. will present a production of “The Secret Garden” at 7 p.m. on April 28, 2 and 7 p.m. on April 29, and 2 p.m. on April 30 at the Palace Theatre in downtown Greenville. There are two casts for this children’s theater production.
The play is an adaptation by Tim Kelly of the literary classic by Frances Hodgson Brunett. The story follows young Mary Lennox, a spirited child who moves from India to Misselthwaite Manor in England to live with her uncle after her parents die during a chollera outbreak.
Mary, played by Quinn Eaves and Raegan Hall, befriends her cousin Colin, played by Carrington Thompson and Sophia Jernigan, who never leaves his room because he’s been convinced he is incurably disabled.
Mary discovers a strange walled garden at the estate, that has been locked up for years. With the assistance of the gardener’s apprentice Dickon, played by Aubrey Armstrong and Lauren Slanton, Mary brings the neglected garden back to life. Along the way she discovers Dickon’s ability to communicate with animals, and the magical effect of the secret garden on all who come into it. Time in the garden helps restore Colin’s health and reunites him with his father.
“The Secret Garden”, directed by Houston Buchanan and Chelsea Kinser, is an endearing reminder to take time to smell the roses.
Tickets are available at the box office one hour before the production, and are $14 for adults and $10 for students. The Palace Theatre is located at 119 North Main Street in Greenville.
