GREENVILLE – John Thomas Mercer, 76, of Greenville, died Tuesday, November 23, 2021, at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Born December 31, 1944, in Muhlenberg County. He was a retired coal miner, and a member of Duvall’s Chapel General Baptist Church. John was a hard worker. He enjoyed camping, loved his grandchildren, and enjoyed riding his golf cart around the neighborhood. He loved his church. He was preceded in death by his parents, R.T. and Mareen Mercer; and brother Tommy Mercer.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Diana Faye Carver Mercer; sons Brian (Gail) Mercer and Brent (Audrey) Mercer; daughter Jerriann (Jeff) Young; grandchildren Caleb, April, Haley, Sidney, and Noah; sisters Wilda McDonald, Linda Steele, Joan Bethel, and Frances Davis.
Funeral services will be Saturday, November 27, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. at Duvall’s Chapel General Baptist Church in Greenville, with Bro. Gary Embry officiating. Burial will follow in Nebo Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Duvall’s Chapel General Baptist Church and Saturday after 9:00 a.m. at the church. Tucker Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
