GREENVILLE – James Daniel Groves, 85, of Greenville, died Wednesday, February 14, 2024 at 1:08 p.m. at his residence. Born February 16, 1938 in Hopkins County. He was a graduate of the 1956 Graham High School Class, a retired Coal Miner for Peabody and Pyro, and a member of Second Baptist Church. James loved his family and friends, church family, fishing, and hunting, and loved his Kentucky Wildcats. He was a proud U.S. Marine Veteran, serving Washington D.C. as Honor Guard. He was preceded in death by his father, Arthur Groves Sr.; mother Anna Mae Groves; first wife, Patsy Groves; son, Richard W. Groves; brothers, Arthur Groves Jr., Jewell Lloyd Groves; and sister, Linda Carol Piper.
He is survived by his wife, Janet Carol Marler Groves; son, Barry (Holly) Groves; brother, Billie Ray Groves of Franklin, KY; sister, Nellie Jane Beasley of Greenville; grandsons, Jacob (Hannah) Groves, Carson and Landon Groves; granddaughter, Macy (Blake) Boggess; great-grandsons, Brice and Henry Boggess; great-granddaughter, Wren Groves; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Saturday February 17, 2024 at 1 p.m. at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City with Dr. Kevin Milburn officiating and Bro. Bob Thurman assisting.
