Frankie Lee Skipworth Sr., 84, of Greenville, died Sunday, December 17, 2023 in Morgantown at his son’s home. Born June 2, 1939 in Todd County, the son of Frankie Skipworth and Allie Gates Skipworth. He worked for thirteen years as a UMWA coal miner for Black Energy Mines until his retirement, and was a timberman and a farmer all of his life. He was a deacon, Sunday School teacher, Sunday School Superintendent, at Joines Chapel General Baptist Church, and also served on the Home Mission Board. He was a Gideon, and he loved his extended family as well as his immediate family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 63 years Jane Jones Skipworth in 2022, and eleven brothers and sisters.
Survivors include a daughter Patty Skipworth of Clifty; two sons Timmy (Kim) Skipworth, Sr. of Weir, and Frankie Lee (Misty) Skipworth Jr. of Morgantown; eleven grandchildren Mark (Mary) Skipworth, Jenny (Jeremy) Heltsley, Allie (Josh) Daugherty, Jacob (Kadi) Skipworth, Timmy (Sam) Skipworth, Jr., Cara (Ty) McDaniel, Emily Skipworth, Tyler Skipworth, Harmony Skipworth, Anthony Skipworth, Christian Embry; several nieces and nephews; and one sister Lady Mae Settle of Clifty.
Funeral services will be Thursday, December 21 at 11:00 a.m. at Joines Chapel General Baptist Church with Bro. Frankie Lee Skipworth Jr. and assisted by Bro. Jeremy Wagoner. Visitation will be Wednesday, December 20 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and on Thursday, December 21 from 9:00 a.m. until time of service at Joines Chapel General Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Greenbrier Church Cemetery in Greenville. Gary’s Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
