James Milton Walker, 82, of Navarre, Fla., was called home December 3, 2020. Born October 14, 1938, in Greenville, to the late Palace and Mae Walker. The oldest of six children, Milton had three brothers and two sisters. He graduated from Graham High School, class of 1957, then enlisted in the U.S. Army in early 1958. Milton served his country honorably for nearly 21 years. He spent two years in Korea, four years in Germany, and a year in Vietnam. His stateside duty stations included Washington State and two assignments in Maryland where he retired as a Sergeant First Class in 1979. He followed his Army career with continued government service until retiring in 1996.
The year 1958 was not only the start of Milton’s military career, but also the beginning of a 62 year marriage. In April of 1958 Milton married his sweetheart, Jolene McDonald. After raising a family, traveling the world, and retiring twice Milton and Jolene moved to Navarre, Florida, in 1997. No matter where he lived, Milton loved his Kentucky Wildcats. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Gilbert and Elmer Walker; and sister, Joyce Williams.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Jolene Walker of Navarre, Fla.; children, Rita (Matthew) Black of Rossville, Tenn., Dennis (Becky) Walker of Anderson, S.C., and Barry (Nancy) Walker of Hagerstown, Md.; grandchildren, Corrie (Ryan) Clark of Rossville, Tenn., Abby Walker of Hagerstown, Md., Joshua Black of Rossville, Tenn., Alan (Morgan) Walker of Lancaster, Pa., Maria and Daniel Walker both of Anderson, S.C.; great-grandchildren, Kevin Clark, Jordan Clark, and Maddox Walker; siblings, Paul Walker and Sue (David) Lear both of Greenville.
Burial was at Barrancas National Cemetery in Pensacola, Florida.
Milton was greatly loved by his family and friends. He will be greatly missed.
