GREENVILLE–David Walton Boggess., 81, of Greenville, died Tuesday, February 27, 2024 in Greenville. Born September 14, 1942, in Greenville, the son of Paul Lemuel Boggess and Mildred Winebarger Boggess. He worked for 35 years as a UMWA coal miner for Gibraltar Mines until his retirement in 2004 and was a farmer all his life. He grew up attending Jernigan’s Chapel United Methodist Church and then the First United Methodist Church in Greenville. He loved spending time with his immediate family as well as his extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son Mark; one brother John Paul, and two sisters Dorothy Carnes, and Mary Turner.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 60 years Janet Blair Boggess; three sons Richard (Hays) Boggess of Lexington, William “Bill” Boggess of Honolulu, and Stephen (Rachelle) Boggess of Greenville; two granddaughters Ashlee and Hannah Boggess; two brothers James (Mollie) Boggess of Greenville; and Joseph (Laura) Boggess; one sister Ruth (John) Bates of Missouri City, TX; sister-in-law Jeannette Bogges and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Saturday, March 2nd from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Funeral services will be Saturday, March 2nd at 1:00 p.m. at Greenville United Methodist Church conducted by Dr. Bob Browning. A burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery in Greenville.
