Angelin Sweeney, 78, of Greenville, received her final call on Saturday, September 17, 2022 at 10:30 p.m. that her work here on earth was finished. She would want everyone to know that she wore many hats throughout the years of her life, but that of “Granny” was her most prized. A testament of her faith in Christ and love for her family was exemplified after the life-changing diagnosis of metastatic ovarian cancer in 2018. In those dark days of chemotherapy, radiation, immunotherapy, and multiple lab draws, she always wanted to know “how are you?” What a legacy she leaves behind as a family member left a note for her in her last days saying “I aspire to be like you and the legacy of kindness and graciousness you have shown.”
Leon took her as his wife 60 years ago on a cold February day. She was the mother of two, Bobby (Debra) Sweeney and Michele (Randy) Coleman. She was blessed with five grandchildren, Ashley (Matthew) Painter, Lauren Pendley, Caleb Sweeney, Makayla Sweeney, and Jenny Beth Gray; eight great-grandchildren Mattox, Asher, Ava, Owen, Ryann, Ashtynn, Kailey, and Madden.
The celebration of her life will be Sunday, September 25 at Gary’s Funeral Home with visitation between 2:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. with funeral services to begin at 5:00 p.m. Ronnie Sadler will officiate with Rev. Tommy Wilhite assisting. Burial will follow in Joines Chapel Church Cemetery.
A special thank you to Baptist Health/Deaconess Hospital who ensured she was comfortable until she drew her last breath.
