Wanda Beatrice (Beatie) Harlan Hendricks Strader, 92, of Louisville, peacefully went to be with her Heavenly Father on Sunday, January 21, 2024. Born December 6, 1931, to Guy and Ida Mae Harlan. Beatie was a cheerleader at Bevier Cleaton High School in Cleaton, Ky. She married her high school sweetheart, Leland Hendricks, when he returned from his Navy duty in 1948. Leland passed away in January 1965.
She worked for General Electric, JCPenney, and Sears & Roebuck for many years. Beatie was gifted with natural sales talents and was most happy selling World Book encyclopedias and Electrolux vacuums for which she won many sales awards.
She was raised in Martwick and Cleaton before moving to Central City. In 1968, Beatie moved to Louisville, after she married Wallace E. Strader.
Beatie was a devout Christian. She was a member of Shively Baptist Church and had a passion witnessing for Christ. Beatie had a love for writing poems, some of which had been published. Having been born into a musical family, she was blessed with a beautiful singing voice and often sang with her sisters and brother. She was a great cook and was well known for her homemade chocolate pies.
Survivors include her three daughters Linda Hendricks Jackson (Ben), Christi Strader and Tammy Strader Lutgen (Mark) as well as stepchildren Wally Strader (Kris) and Lou Anna Strader Osborne (Steve). She is also survived by grandchildren Kendall and Jake Lutgen, a step grandson Josh Strader (Ginger) and four step great-grandchildren. She is survived by a brother William Harlan (Ann) and many beloved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, Leland Hendricks and Wallace Strader and two sisters Lola Mae Harlan Durham and Anna Faye Harlan Kranzman.
The family wishes to thank the Christian Care Community Middletown caregivers, the Hosparus Comfort Care team as well as her personal caregiver Alaijah Lewis for their devoted services at this time in Beatie’s life.
Visitation will be Friday, January 26, 2024, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Owens Funeral Home Jeffersontown, 9318 Taylorsville Road, Louisville, KY with a memorial service following. The burial will be at Rose Hill Cemetery in Central City later that day.
