Samuel Horace Dowell, 63, passed away unexpectedly on December 22, 2021 in Hanford, Calif. Sam was the fourth child of Henry and Elizabeth Dowell of Bremen. Born November 15, 1958 in Madisonville, growing up, he attended Bremen school from grades 1 – 12 and was a member of the Bremen Cumberland Presbyterian church along with his family. After graduating as Valedictorian of his class in 1975, Sam attended Murray State University where he received an Associate degree in Electrical Engineering. His first job was with McDonald Douglas Aircraft in St. Louis, which eventually became Boeing Aircraft. After a few years, Sam was transferred to California to work as a Boeing contractor at Lemoore Naval Station in Lemoore, Calif. Upon his retirement, Sam had worked for Boeing for over 35 years. Samuel was preceded in death by his mother and father Henry and Elizabeth Dowell, and niece Brittney Nalley.
It was in California that Sam met Bonnie Gregory who would be the love of his live and a life-long companion. He loved her three children as his own and became Dad, Grandpa, and Great Grandpa to them and their children. His hobbies included star gazing, watching civil war reenactments, attending theatre plays, and treasure hunting. He also enjoyed cooking and attending the Caruthers, Calif. Fair every year, but his greatest joy was his family.
He is survived by many loving family members, including sister, Henrietta Nalley of Madisonville; brother Jimmy and Debbie Dowell of Henderson, and sister Rosemary and Tony Lampe of Grand Prairie, Texas. He also leaves behind Bonnie Gregory; daughter Brenda Gregory; son Franklin Gregory, and daughter Shelly (Tom) McCalvy all of Hanford, Calif., along with several nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great grandchildren that he loved and adored. Sam was loved by many and will be missed by all who knew him.
Services will be held Friday, January 28, 2022, with a 10:00 a.m. viewing at Whitehurst McNamara Funeral Home inHanford, Calif. followed by a graveside service at Grangeville Cemetery in Armona, Calif. at 1:00 p.m.
