CENTRAL CITY – Robert Junior Mitchell, 80 of Central City passed away Saturday, March 16, 2024 at his residence in Central City.
Born December 2, 1943 in Powderly to both the late Robert Mitchell Sr. and Pansy Hightower. Also preceding him in death; a loving wife of 45 years, Phyllis Mitchell and one sister, Mary Alice Thomas and one granddaughter, Michela Brittany Phelps .
Bob, as he was lovingly known was a member of the Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church, Central City, KY and under watch-care at Browder Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in Browder, KY.
His employment consisted of approx. 14 years with Sinclair & Gibraltar Mines followed by an additional 12 years for KY Laborer.
His sons were his life whom he loved dearly. Robert exhibited a fondness for hunting and fishing, delighted in conversing with anyone he met, enjoyed discussing various topics while exchanging his personal opinion and assisting his fellowman in his time of need. His distinct style of speech always resulted in contagious and uncontrollable laughter.
Survivors include three devoted sons, Courtney (Jacqueline) Phelps, Arlington, Tex., Rico Lamont (Toni) Mitchell, Fort Worth, Tex. and Marcus (Ginger) Mitchell, Central City; five grandchildren; three great grandchildren; one niece, Rita ( Rev. Terry ) Daniels, Bowling Green; one nephew, Gene Martin, San Diego, Calf.; several cousins, distant relatives and friends.
Funeral Services are at 11:00 a.m., Friday, March 22, 2024 at The Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church, 411 N. 1st Street, Central City , KY.
