Paul Darwin Denney, 86, passed away from a brief illness on September 6, 2022 at Greenville Nursing and Rehabilitation. Born November 07, 1935 in Monticello, Wayne County, Ky., he was the only child of Finley and Grace Bell Denney. He was of the Baptist faith and joined the Church at an early age. He graduated from Wayne County High School in 1953, trained as a paratrooper in the United States Army and lived most of the rest of his life in Greenville, where he retired from Green River Gas as an oil and gas well driller and maintenance technician. He was a Master Mason in the Pond River Lodge and a Kentucky Colonel. At different times in his life he had enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, reading, investing in the stock market, and Sunday morning breakfast with his friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Finley and Grace Denney, his first wife and the mother of his children, Billie June Myers Denney, infant, Mary Beth Denney, fathers-in-law and mothers-in-law, David and Cora Mae Myers of Greenville and Silas and Nora West of Oneida, Tenn., brother-in-law, Donny Myers.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 51 years, Norma Jean West Denney; son, Michael (Jill) Denney of Crossville, Tenn.; grandsons, Taylor Denney of Crossville, Tenn. and, Spencer (Alexis) Denney of Spring City, Tenn,; granddaughter, Celia Denney of Nashville, Tenn.; step-daughter, Donna (Greg) Martin; step-grandson, Jeremy (Rachel Shelton) Howe, step-granddaughter, Teela Howe all of Greenville.
The family is very appreciative of the great doctors and nurses of the trauma center at Deaconess Mid-Town Hospital in Evansville, Ind. and the many caring employees in each department at Greenville Nursing and Rehabilitation.
Graveside services will be Saturday, September 10, at 12:00 p.m. at Elk Spring Cemetery in Monticello. Visitation will be Friday, September 9 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Gary’s Funeral Home in Greenville. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Legion or the VFW.
