Megan McGregor plays Sloane Akers, who is doing her best to keep afloat the Harriet Anderson Gallery she inherited from her late Aunt Harriet in “Murder at the Art Show”, on stage at the Palace Theatre this weekend.
Standing in Sloane’s way is Harriet’s conniving boyfriend, Jacob Smote (Houston Buchanan), who wants to tear down the gallery and replace it with a sports complex. Desperate to save the gallery, Sloane plans to unveil a previously unseen masterpiece — her friend Maryann Manet’s lost Monet. Manet is played by Elizabeth Kidd.
Directed by Teresa Gott, the comedic murder mystery will be performed by the players of Muhlenberg Community Theatre, Inc. in the downtown Greenville theater’s Cabaret Lounge at 7 p.m. Feb. 23, 24 and 25.
Along with the lost Monet, the art show includes works of some other well-known artists, including abstract painter Paxton Haddock (Kerry Kerner) and commercially successful painter of gnome houses, Tabitha Cincannon (Brooklyn Kirk).
But Jason hates all that “pretentious mumbo jumbo” and plots to wreck the evening by inviting slimy chauvinist and everybody’s ex-boyfriend, Blake Slocombe, played by Casper Collins, to serve as emcee for Sloane’s make-or-break showing.
By the end of the evening, “Murder at the Art Show” paints the perfect picture of greed, jealousy, and deception as a priceless Monet goes missing, art is destroyed, and a murder mystery is unveiled.
Tickets are on sale now at the MCTI website, and must be purchased in advance. Each $20 ticket includes admission to the show as well as charcuterie board selections and a beverage.
