CENTRAL CITY – William “W.D.” David Kimmel, 86, of Central City, died Thursday, September 21, 2023 at 3:43 p.m. at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital in Owensboro. Born September 18, 1937 in Earlington, he was a member of South Carrollton Baptist Church and worked as the Chief Information Security Officer for First National Bank. W.D.’s Maternal Grandfather, Freeman Hershberg came to Kentucky from Russia. He built a cart, purchased vegetables from local farmers and worked his way from Louisville to Central City selling vegetables to locals along the long walk from Louisville to Central City. Freeman opened a clothing store in downtown Central City, became mayor of Central City, built the first city pool, and loved Central City. W.D. inherited this love for Central City. W.D. also loved fishing and hunting with his father, D.D. Kimmel; a love shared with his niece and nephews.
Mr. Kimmel is survived by his sister, Barbara Swift; one niece; and four nephews.
Funeral services will be Monday, September 25, 2023 at 12:00 p.m. at South Carrollton Baptist Church with Bro. Roger Heltsley officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery.
