Thurmond Douglas “Dougie” Anderson

BREMEN – Thurmond Douglas “Dougie” Anderson, 73, of Bremen, passed away peacefully with his family by his side Tuesday December 17, 2024 at 10:09 p.m. at Owensboro Heath Regional Hospital. Born in Muhlenberg County January 17, 1951, to the late Opal and Earl Anderson of Central City.

Dougie was a devoted father to his children, Troy Anderson, and Melonie Anderson Baize (Jordan). He was a father figure to many including Tonya Rager Bullock, Mark, and Micheal Campbell, LeaAnn Burden, Brian Dukes, Dave and Jake Young and many other children who were raised on Park Street. He taught a lot of life’s lessons, gave great encouragement, and filled the gap for many who needed a father’s love.

Doug’s greatest joys were his grandkids, Cole and Kayslee Anderson, Javion, and Delilah Baize, Takaylia Stobaugh (Brody), Terrian Bullock (Raelynne); and great-granddaughter, Claycie Stobaugh, not to mention those who he was a Papaw figure to.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Kay Anderson, who he shared many years of love and memories with; his grandson Traycin Dayne Anderson; his brothers, David, and Wayne Anderson; and sister, Retta Noffsinger

Survivors include his brothers, Jackie Anderson (Teresa) of Central City, and Elmer Anderson (Kathy), of Bremen, as well as his sisters, Donna  Anderson Eaves (the late Edward Eaves) of Central City, Della Garrett (Darrell) of Bremen, and Sharon Garrett (the late Buddy Garrett) of Central City. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.

Dougie dedicated 30 years of his life as a boilermaker at Alcan, where he earned the respect of his colleagues with his skill and work ethic. Outside of work, Dougie was a man of faith and deeply loved the Lord. He was an active member of Church Street General Baptist Church, where he also served as a trustee. Many knew him for his kindness, wisdom, and his love for the community.

For Dougie, there was nothing better than spending time with his good friend, Kenny Pagan, working in his garage on boat motors. He also loved to fire up his smoker to cook meat and host legendary 4th of July bashes that friends and family fondly remembered. Dougie loved being on the Green River, fishing for catfish and enjoying the outdoors.

A member of the Bremen Masonic Lodge, Dougie was always ready with a friendly word and a helping hand. He was known for his ability to make everyone feel welcome and for sharing his wisdom with anyone who sought it. His generosity of spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He also loved and greatly appreciated his job as the commissioner of the Bremen Ky water district.
