Shirley Sue Webb Hancock

GREENVILLE, Shirley Sue Webb Hancock went to be with her Heavenly Father Thursday, November 21, 2024 at Owensboro Health Muhlenberg Community Hospital. Born to Robert and Captola Webb on October 27, 1935. She had just celebrated her 89th birthday.

Shirley was baptized on April 3, 1945 at First Baptist Church in Greenville. She was a faithful member of First Baptist Church where she loved to minister until she was unable to serve anymore. She was active in many areas of the church as a Sunday School teacher and youth Training Union leader. She was a member of the Sanctuary Choir for over 30 years and she loved being a part of Circle of Friends for many years. One of her favorite ministries at First Baptist Church was to sponsor and accompany the First Baptist Church Touring Choir directed by Bro. Jack Duvall. She was a Kentucky Colonel. She retired from Greenville Insurance after a lifetime of service to the agency where she was a bonded insurance agent. She was also a Brownie Leader and Girl Scout Leader during the 1960’s-1970’s. She loved Greenville and all that it had to offer. She took great pride in knowing her city was maintained beautifully. She loved riding through the streets of Greenville and she knew where everyone lived.

To know her was to love her. She greeted everyone with a smile. She loved God, her church and her family. She was committed to a life of prayer and service for others. She had a deep love for animals and had many “doggie & kitty children” during her lifetime. She had a passion for reading and was an avid supporter of her local library.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Turner Hancock.

She is survived by her beloved daughter, (Susie) Susan Denise and her husband Tony Gipson of Greenville. She is also survived by one sister Harlene Webb Grace of Greenville, one sister-in-law Donna Epley Webb of Benton and brother-in-law Fred Hancock and his wife Reta of Union City, TN as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins whom she dearly loved.

She was also preceded in death by her parents Robert & Captola Webb, brothers Larry Webb, Bobby “Peto” Webb and his wife Bettye, a sister Patty Webb Drury and her husband Buddy, and a brother-in-law Jewel Grace.
