CENTRAL CITY – Shirley Ann (Darity) Ashby, 89 of Central City, died at Maple Health and Rehabilitation Center, July 19, 2025.
Born November 9, 1935 in Madisonville, to Will and Louise (Richardson) Darity. After Shirley married her husband, Sonny Ashby, they lived in Evansville and Newburgh, Ind. She was a member of Gateway Baptist Church in Newburgh. She was cheerful, friendly and a very stylish lady. She especially enjoyed her job as “the sample lady” at Auntie Anne’s, in Evansville Mall. Shirley moved to The Courtyard, in Central City, in 2021 to be near family. Shirley loved The Courtyard and was well cared for by the staff. Shirley was also blessed to have two wonderful caregivers, Corrina Dennison and Brittney Horn, whom she loved dearly.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William W. “Sonny” Ashby, and her only child, William Scott Ashby.
Survivors include her niece, Laura Paxton (Ralph) of Central City; nephews, Rance Darity of Kinzers, Pa. and Keith Darity of Sarasota, Fla.; her sister in laws, Audrey Darity of Central City and Alma Ashby Owen, of Franklin, Tenn.; nephew, Forrest Ashby of Phoenix, Ariz. and niece, Sarah Ashby Graves (Keith) of Franklin, Tenn.; several great nieces and nephews, and her very dear friend, Ray Kirtley.
Graveside services will be private, and burial will be at Slaughters Cemetery. Gary’s Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
