BREMEN – Roy Junior Smith, 82, of Bremen, went home to Heaven peacefully on the evening of Saturday, March 7, 2026, at the Western Kentucky Veterans Center in Hanson, Kentucky. He was born in Drakesboro, Kentucky, on July 29, 1943. After serving in the U.S. Navy from 1960 to 1964, he married the love of his life, Carolyn Sue Rice, on August 15, 1964. They were happily married for over 61 years.
Roy was a mine foreman and retired from Peabody Coal in 1995. He was a Mason and a member of East Union Missionary Baptist Church, where he had served as a trustee. Roy loved the outdoors and especially enjoyed farming, hunting, trapping, and competitive trap shooting. He will be remembered for his love of family, strong work ethic, and enjoyment of the outdoors.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie Smith and Alvena Dillender; brothers, James Smith and Larry Smith; and granddaughters, Andrea Smith and Bethany Smith.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Carolyn Sue Smith; his daughter, Dana (Randy) Phillips; his son, Kevin “Andy” (Jessica) Smith; his grandchildren, Steven (Alysia) Phillips, Heath (Abigail) Phillips, Ryan Phillips, Dylan (Alexis) Smith, and Emily (Toby) Nestlehutt; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; siblings, Billy (Vicki) Smith and Margaret Ann (Mike) Moore; and his stepmother, Margaret Lois Smith.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 10, 2026, at 1:00 PM at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City, with Bro. Joe Chambers officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Pisgah Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday after 10;00 AM at the funeral home. Online condolences may be made at.
