ROSWELL, Ga. – Roger Young Finley, 77 of Roswell, Ga. Passed away on Thursday, July11, 2024, after a five year battle with cancer in Atlanta, Ga. Born January 21, 1947 to Austin and Dorothy Finley in Greenville. Roger was a graduate of Muhlenberg Central High School in 1965 and attended Western Kentucky University. Before moving away Roger was a long time member of Roland Memorial Church.
He worked many years for Peabody Coal Company and then retired from Verizon, after several years. He will be remembered for his gentle voice, friendly smile, interesting conversations, warm hospitality, generosity, kindness, positive attitude, and strength in adversity. He was preceded in death by his parent, Austin and Dorothy.
Survivors include his wife of 24 years, Svetlana Finley, sons, Wes (Debbie) Finley and Brett Finley; brother, Jerry (Marjorie) Finley; granddaughter, Hannah Finley (Jack) Erbland; niece, Shannon Finley and other family and friends.
Funeral services were held Monday, July 15, 2024 at St. Mary of Egypt Orthodox Church in Roswell, Ga. Burial followed in the Monastery of the Glorious Ascension in Resaca, Ga. Loving care was given to Roger and his family by the staff of A.S. Turner and Sons Funeral Home.
