CENTRAL CITY – Richard Alan Brothers, 67, of Central City, passed into the loving arms of Jesus Sunday, November 23, 2025 at 11:50 p.m. at The Heartford House in Owensboro. Born July 5, 1958 in Greenville, to Vernon and Mary Sue (Tudor) Brothers. They moved to Gary, Ind. for a while, then moved back to Central City just in time for Rick to be an outstanding baseball and basketball player for the Central City Golden Tide.

After graduating High School, his love was evident for coal mining. He began his career with Island Creek Coal Company as a roof bolter, worked as Safety Director at KenAmerican Resources, and finished his career as Safety Director for Armstrong Coal Company. At his retirement after over 40 years in the coal industry, he had obtained many certifications and had competed in several Mine Rescue Competitions.

Rick and Tammy were married in 1978 and joined Second Baptist Church in 1981. He served as deacon, taught Sunday School, and served on several committees throughout the years. Rick loved the Lord and His church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents Estil and Hazel Brothers and Emet and Myrt Tudor, and father-in-law Frank Kebbell.

Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Tammy Kebbell Brothers, son Nathan (Sarah) Brothers, two beautiful grandchildren, Kate and Kasen Brothers, brothers Steve (Cheryl) Brothers, Mike (Jennifer) Brothers, and Jeff Brothers, mother-in-law Linda Brown, aunts and uncle, in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and very special caregivers Chelsea Cottrell and Paul Ashby.

All services will be held at Second Baptist Church in Greenville. Visitation will be Saturday, November 29, 2025 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The funeral will begin at 1:00 p.m. conducted by Bro. Bob Thurman.

Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Greenville. Tucker Funeral Home is entrusted with his care. Pallbearers are Paul Ashby, Dr. Eric Bandy, Mike Mercer, T. Morgan, James Nelson Robards, and Charles Short.

Contributions in his honor and in honor of every loved one with Alzheimer’s and their dedicated spouses and caregivers can be made to The Alzheimer’s Association, The Heartford House Hospice of Western Ky, or Second Baptist Church Building Fund. Isaiah 40:31 “But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”
