CENTRAL CITY – Ramona Gish, 87, of Central City, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 15, 2023 at Greenville Nursing and Rehab Center after a lengthy illness. Born April 11, 1935 in Paradise , Ky., “behind the backwaters” as she always liked to say, to her parents, Earl “Happy” and Lucille (Roark) James.
Together with her husband L.W. Gish, Ramona ran Gish Furniture in Central City and South Carrollton, for many years until his death in 1976. She continued with the business until 1988 when she then retired from furniture and began working with the elderly in nursing care. She has been retired for the past 30 years enjoying the time with her children, grandchildren, and sisters. Traveling, reading, yard saleing, shopping, and cooking were her favorite pastimes. She was preceded in death by her father and mother, her husband of 26 years, L.W. Gish and her sister, Matilda Sue Keeton.
Survivors include her children Johnnie (Sherrie) Gish, Kay (Steve) Thomas, Michael (Carolyn) Gish, and Barbara (Michael) Case. Her grandchildren are Johnnie Gish II, Michael Gish II, Amie Swink, Jennifer Hancock, Kim (Travis) Leap, Stormy Case, Noah Gish, and Travis Gish. She was also blessed with four great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Ramona is also survived by her sisters and lifelong best friends Earlene Kirtley and Sheila Vaught and one brother Earl “Sonny” (Becky) James, along with several beloved nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Thursday January 19, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City with Bro. Mike Gish officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery.
