GREENVILLE— Phyllis Gwendolyn Agard Galyen passed away at her residence Tuesday, November 18 at 11:40 a.m. surrounded by her loved ones. Born May 18, 1937, in Barbados, West Indies, Phyllis met and married the love of her life, Don Galyen. Theirs was a true love story that spanned nearly 65 years—they would have celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary December 31.
Phyllis was of the Baptist faith and was a member of Second Baptist Church. She was a woman of many talents and a devoted homemaker. She was an exceptional cook, seamstress, quilter, and crocheter, creating countless treasures for her family and friends. Later in life, she shared her warmth and work ethic with the community as the Bakery-Deli Manager and cake decorator at Stewart’s IGA, where she was well known and loved until her retirement in 2001.
In retirement, Phyllis and Don enjoyed spending winters in Florida as well as traveling to Mo. to visit their daughter, son-in-law, and grandchildren. They were also able to make several trips to her homeland of Barbados.
She is preceded in death by her parents and siblings.
Funeral services will be held Friday, November 21, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at Gary’s Funeral Home in Greenville, officiated by Rev. Bob Thurman assisted by Dr. John Galyen. Burial will follow at Friendship Cemetery in Greenville, KY.
Survivors include her beloved husband, Don; daughters Donna Laster (late John Laster) of Greenville and Andrea Head (Marty) of O’Fallon, Mo.; and three cherished grandchildren, Phillip Groves (Kristan), Kristyn Sheets (David), and Jonathon Head. She had several nieces and nephews in the US, Barbados, and the UK. She was also survived by her sister and brothers in law.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 20th from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and from 9:00 a.m. until time of funeral Friday, November 21, 2026 at Gary’s Funeral Home.
She will be remembered for her love, creativity, and the warmth she brought to everyone around her.
