GREENVILLE – Muriel E. Cundiff died on Wednesday, August 12’th at 12:50 pm at Magnolia Springs Senior Living in Loveland, Ohio. She was born in Greenville, Ky on March 11, 1931. Muriel was the daughter of the late Bernard and Ettie Hill Drake. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband of 47 years, Jerry Lindel Cundiff, and her siblings, Eleanor (Frank) Bacha, Josephine (Maurice) Schreiner, Ruby (T.J.) Ray, Benny Drake, Judy (Jim) Eiland, and Phyllis (Lindell) Jones.
She is survived by her daughter, Lori Ann (Greg) Shannon of Denver, Colorado; and her son, Chris (Annette) Cundiff of Cincinnati, Ohio. Grandchildren are Katie (Matt) Glascock, Carson (Alex) Gustafson, Abby (Zach) Janszen, Carlisle Cundiff, and John Christian Cundiff. Great- grandchildren are Clark and Jack Glascock, and sister-in-law Dorothy Drake Boggess. Additionally numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She grew up on her family’s farm in Muhlenberg County alongside her six siblings, and worked on the farm as many did growing up during the Great Depression. After graduation, she started her career working as a secretary for Paine Webber in the financial district of Chicago. Later she held positions in retail and as an assistant in the Muhlenberg County Courthouse in Greenville.
Throughout life, Muriel’s favorite activities were centered around engaging people. She loved family gatherings, reunions, and her church. She was a 65 year member of Roland Memorial Missionary Baptist Church, where she was active in the women’s Sunday school class. She never met a stranger and loved to strike up conversation, much to the chagrin of her children and husband. She loved travel well into her late 80’s, and could outshop any willing partner. She danced whenever she heard music, and even entertained her senior living residents and employees with her dance moves at 95. She enjoyed raising a garden, canning, and was an excellent homemaker and cook. Her banana pudding is legendary.
Grieving is natural when someone leaves this life, but Muriel would ask that we remember the joy of her life on earth, rejoice at the thought of the eternal life she enjoys now, embrace those around you, and dance more often.
Visitation is Friday, August 21’st, 2026 from 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm and Saturday, August 22’nd, 2026 after 9 am, followed by the funeral at 1:00 pm, at Gary’s Funeral Home in Greenville, KY. The Rev. Danny Mooneyhan presiding. Burial will be at Lonestar Cemetary in Weir, KY.
