Mark Mansfield “Sparky” Williams

OWENSBORO – Mark Mansfield “Sparky” Williams, 65, a proud Bremen boy (born March 18, 1960) who became an Owensboro city man— had his best day ever on Saturday, October 18, 2025, when he went home to be with his Savior after a courageous battle with cancer. Mark fought until his final breath and made every moment count.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Betty Jo Murphy Williams.

He is survived by his wife – Gayle Davis Williams; children: Hannaha (Brian) Niles of Owensboro, Miller (Tyler) Green of Franklin, Tenn., Dylon (Morgan) Cecil of Owensboro, Annah Cecil of Louisville; grandsons: Skylar Niles of Owensboro, Wesley Lenox of Louisville; his father John Owen Williams of Midland, brother John O. Williams of Central City, and sister Mary Williams of Midland. Mark was a living example of God’s design for how a husband should love his wife. To his children, he was a hero without a cape — their protector, provider, and champion. He gave far more than he ever took, pouring love and kindness into everyone around him.

If it had wheels, an engine, or made noise, Mark loved it — at least until the next shiny new thing caught his eye. His passion for all things mechanical led to countless friendships with others who shared his interests, and he was always eager to talk shop with anyone who would listen.

His work family at Gipe Auto Color was a huge part of his life. Even in his final months, Mark told his doctors how important it was for him to keep working — not just because he loved what he did, but because he saw it as part of his ministry to others. That was who he was: generous, steadfast, and full of purpose.

In recent weeks, Mark could often be heard saying that every day was “the best day ever.” He chose to live joyfully, with gratitude and faith, right up until his final day on earth. May we all remember Mark by seeing the good in each day — making it the “best day ever” no matter what may come your way.

We would like to thank all the medical team in Owensboro that provided excellent care to Mark throughout his journey.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, October 22, 2025 at 12 p.m. at BridgePointe Church in Owensboro with Pastor Steve Cripps officiating. Burial in Rose Hill Elmwood Cemetery.
