Leo Duran, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, was welcomed into heaven on April 11, 2026, at the age of 84. He lived a life that touched many—marked by service, loyalty, and an immense love of family.
Born on July 10, 1941, Leo answered his country’s call early, serving in the United States Navy from 1960 to 1966. He served as a Gunner’s Mate aboard the USS Helena and the USS Orleck, and carried a deep respect for military service—and for those in law enforcement—throughout his life. After his service, Leo settled in Greenville, where he spent his working years as a coal miner and welder, a man who took pride in everything he built with his hands.
He loved the roar of a Harley and hit the road whenever he could—with his friends, his son, and his grandson beside him. He enjoyed a good round of golf, but his most cherished moments were spent rooting for his grandchildren as they played sports, cheered, performed, and competed.
Leo was preceded in death by his son, Mark Duran; his first wife, Sharon Duran; and his granddaughter, Kendall Richins.
He is survived by his beloved wife and friend of twelve years, Jackie Duran; his son, Kevin Duran, and Kevin’s wife, Tammy; and his stepchildren, Christine (Ozzie), Rhonda (Ryan), and Ricky (Angela).
He was a devoted Papaw to his grandchildren, Taylor (Jordan), Tanner, and Kendra, and a loving “Grandpa Leo” (“GPL”) to Christopher (Rachel), Austin (Chloe), Raegan, Rylyn, Leena, and Liam, as well as his great-grandchildren, Athena, Benny, Ozias, and Richie.
He is also survived by his siblings, Gladys, Pita, Viola, Evelyn, Salli, Felix, and Leona, along with many extended family members and friends who loved him dearly.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Tuesday, April 21st, 2026 at 1:00 PM at Gary’s Funeral Home in Greenville KY. Visitation will start at 10:00 AM until time of the service on Tuesday, April 21st, 2026 followed by a reception.
In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to perform an act of kindness or service in his memory.
Fair winds and following seas, Leo. You served well and loved well.
