Lendell Phelps, 68, of Cleaton born, beloved husband, father, brother and friend, passed away Monday, July 4, 2022 at the U of L Jewish Hospital in Louisville. Born February 8, 1954, his membership was sustained with the Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church in Cleaton. He was preceded into Heaven by his mother, Lillian Duncan Phelps and father Eugene Phelps; son, Philip Phelps; sisters, Andrea, Connie and Lois Phelps, Sandra Phelps Walker, and Phyllis Ann Mitchell.
Lendell was a Sergeant in the United States Air Force and was best remembered as a man who fiercely loved his family, kept his word, and was always willing to help family and friends. He was an accomplished mechanic and all-round handyman with an endless fascination for cars, aviation, and all things mechanical. Lendell was greatly loved and his presence will be sorely missed in this world.
Survivors include his loving wife of 47 years, Roberta “Birdie” Phelps; daughter, Jamesetta Nash; son, Aaron (Sarah) Phelps; grandchildren, Sean (Harlie) Phelps, Camille Masterson, David Nash, and Essence Nash; great grandchildren, Olivia Nash, Sahara Nash, and Atlas Phelps; brothers, Michael Phelps of Sacramento, Calif., Jerry Phelps of Pinson, Ala., Ricky Phelps of Cleaton, Melvin Phelps of Toronto, Canada, and Perry Phelps of Camden, Del. ; sisters,Gloria Phelps of Louisville, Elaine Lewis of Sacramento, Calif., Janie Phelps of Cleaton, Patricia Phelps of Murfreesboro, Tenn. and Annetta Phelps of Dover, Del.
Funeral services will be Saturday, July 9, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. at the Mount Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church in Cleaton. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., at the church. Lendell will be laid to rest in West End Cemetery, Greenville, near his son, Philip Phelps’ plot with Rev. Jerrell M. Clark, Eulogist. Bibbs Funeral Home, in Greenville, is in charge of arrangements.
