GREENVILLE – Laura Dell (Scott) Brewer, age 97, went home to Jesus Tuesday, August 26, 2025, at her residence in rural Greenville, surrounded by family.
Born to Leland and Edrie Scott November 4, 1927, in Muhlenberg County. She was the oldest of seven children and dearly loved her siblings.
Laura married Courtland Thomas Brewer in 1945, after he returned from service in the Pacific during WWII. They went on to have three children, Wanda, Jenny, and Thomas.
In addition to being a dedicated and loving wife and mother, Laura also loved reading, writing letters, cooking, baking, gardening, and working on the family farm. She found joy in her many friendships, her church, and her family. She was a homemaker and farmer but also worked for Southern States as a bookkeeper for a while. She also spent some years working for GE.
Laura was a strong woman of faith and a prayer warrior. She loved singing hymns, studying her Bible, and was active in her beloved home church, Yeargin’s Chapel near Graham, for most of her adult life. She held an unwavering faith in God, which she shared with those who surrounded her. When her health began to fail, she found comfort in weekly calls with her daughter, Jenny, where they sang hymns and prayed together.
Laura was preceded in death by her parents, Leland and Edrie Scott, her husband, Courtland T Brewer, and two sisters, Linnie Farmer and Patricia Scott.
Survivors include her daughters, Wanda Helmick of Nashville, Tenn., Jenny Hutchison (Verl)of Centerville, Iowa, and her son Thomas Brewer of rural Greenville; five grandchildren: two great-grandsons; siblings, Monita Sammet , Henry Scott, Jerry Scott, and Portia Bee and she leaves behind many other family members and friends who will sadly miss her.
Graveside services will be conducted on Friday, August 29th at 11:00 a.m. at Vernal Grove Cemetery in Greenville, officiated by Rev. Dave Fullen. There will be a private visitation.
