CENTRAL CITY – Junior Lee Shanks, 83, of Central City died Sunday, May 10, 2026 at 7:33PM at Owensboro Health Muhlenberg Community Hospital in Greenville. Mr. Shanks was born in Midland on December 1, 1942. He was a Retired Coal Miner, having worked for Peabody Coal and River Queen Mines. He loved to watch Kentucky play basketball. When he was younger, he loved to trot line fish in Green River where he snagged several big catches. He enjoyed grilling and was known for his famous burgers. He loved to woodwork. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Nell Shanks; parents, Claude and Laura Bell Shanks; and brothers, Robert “Will” (Betty) Shanks, Wendell Shanks, Randall Shanks, and Jesse Shanks.
He is survived by his son, Pastor Tony (Melissa) Shanks; daughter, Teresa (Gary) Joines; four grandchildren, Lucas (Chelsea) Shanks, Meghan (Travis) Jones, Lauren (Chris) Cupp, and Cole (Catherine) Shanks; five great-grandchildren, Caynan Jones, Annalaya Jones, Rylan Shanks, Lively Shanks, and Liam Cupp.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, May 13, 2026 at 11AM at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City with Bro. Tony Shanks officiating. Burial in Cherry Hill Cemetery.
