POWDERLY – It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother and grandmother, Joyce Lavan Dukes, who left this world Friday, January 3rd, 2025 at the age of 84. Joyce was surrounded by her loving family at Greenville Nursing and Rehabilitation, as she peacefully passed. Born in Muhlenberg County April 20, 1940.
She married the love of her life, Wayne, on March 23, 1956. Together, they shared 40 loving years of marriage and raised 7 children.
Known for her love of her children, grandchildren, bunco, and traveling, Joyce was an exceptional mother, grandmother, aunt, sister, and friend. Her hobbies included caregiving, crafting, watching Hallmark movies, cooking, making candy, and sharing her wisdom, and she always brought joy to those fortunate enough to know her.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Benford Wayne Dukes, son Keith Wayne Dukes, and daughter Karen Ann Pierstorff.
Survivors include her children Sherry Thompson, Cathy Payne, Timmy Dukes, Lisa Marshall, and Bryan Dukes, daughter-in-law Kimberly Dukes, 24 grandchildren, 39 great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.
Funeral services were held Saturday, January 4, 2025 at 2 p.m. at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City with Bro. Jordan Mallory officiating. Burial followed in Cessna Cemetery in Powderly. Online Condolences may be made at www.tuckerfuneralhomes.com
