Jewell Friezelle Peterson, 93, of Greenville, died Wednesday, May 19, 2021 at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. Born in Greenville, the son of Roland Peterson and Florence Latham Peterson. He was a UMWA coal miner and has worked for Gibraltar for thirty-three years, as well as several other coal mines. He was a member of Greenville First Baptist Church and had been a member longer than any other current member. He graduated from Greenville High School in 1946 where he was a star basketball player. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Evelyn Hogan Peterson in 1981, and sisters Martha Morton and Louella Green.
Survivors include sons, Stephen A. Peterson of Greenville, Brent Peterson of Cadiz, and Timothy Peterson of Mt. Juliet, Tenn.; four grandchildren; five great grandchildren.
Graveside services will be Saturday, May 22 at 1:00 p.m. at Evergreen Cemetery in Greenville with Rev. Paul Moore officiating. There will be no visitation. Gary’s Funeral Home in Greenville is in charge of arrangements.
