OWENSBORO – Jewell Culbertson, 88, of Owensboro, passed away peacefully Monday, July 14, 2025, in Lexington, surrounded by loved ones. Born January 24, 1937, in Greenville, he spent most of his youth in Chicago, Ill. before returning to Greenville for his high school years.
He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, William and Bessie Culbertson, and by his nine brothers: William, Ariel, James, Walter, Paul, Howard, Gerald, Eual, and Donnie Culbertson.
Survivors. include his beloved wife, Patty Culbertson, whom he married on June 15, 1958; two sons, Terry Culbertson and Robin Culbertson; five cherished grandchildren and two beloved great-grandchildren.
Jewell worked for Peabody Coal Company as an underground coal miner and was a member of the United Mine Workers Association. His career was cut short due to a serious mining accident, which led to his early retirement.
Despite all the challenges he faced, he never lost his sense of humor or his deep appreciation for family. He will be remembered for his gentle spirit, will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Funeral services will be held at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City, Saturday, July 19, 2025 at 1 p.m. at Tucker Funeral Home, Central City with Bro. David Warren officiating. Burial will follow at Lone Star General Baptist Church Cemetery, located at . Visitation will be Saturday from 12-1 p.m. at the funeral home.
