Jan Cannady, born Janice Lee Nalley, age 80, passed away on Monday, July 15, 2024 at Bay Port of Fort Walton Beach, Florida.
Jan (as she insisted to be called) was born May 30, 1944 in Central City, Kentucky to Joe Delbert Nalley and Leota (Lee) Carolyn Hogan Nalley. She met the love of her life, Roy Nelson Cannady, in October 1978. They married four months later, February 24, 1979.
Jan graduated from Central City High School in 1962 and attended Murray State College in Kentucky. Jan never met a stranger….her family would say she could talk to a gate post. She was charming, witty and had a great sense of humor.
Jan worked as switchboard operator at AT&T, Centel and as a comm specialist at Eglin Air Force Base, Florida during her working career.
Survivors include her devoted husband, Roy, step-daughter Carla Jordan, her brother Joe Carroll Nalley, sister in law, Debbie Nalley of Spanish Fort, Alabama. Also surviving Jan are nephew Joseph Scott Nalley (Christina), and niece Amy Leigh Nalley Bernd (Matthew) and great-neice Macy Bernd. She is also survived by her special sister/cousin, Angela Harris Parkhurst of Destin, Florida and many cousins and friends. Jan always had a pet dog in her adult life to love and spoil including Fazati, Macho, Scooter, Gator and Molly.
Jan was preceded in death by her two infant children, Jana and Jimmy. Jan had a special relationship with her deceased parents Joe and Lee (Leota) Nalley. Also preceding her in death were her beloved grandparents Exie Ellen Moore and step-grandfather of 55 years, Marvin Franklin Moore of Evansville, Indiana.
Our precious Jan has thankfully left the pain and confusion of this world and is enjoying her heavenly home where she is with her God, her children, her dogs and her mother and daddy. She will be missed by her cherished family and multitude of friends and will be remembered for her infectious laugh, her sense of humor and her loving nature.
