CINCINNATI, OH – James Walter Sharpe, 84, passed away on Thursday, January 29, 2026, at 1:45PM in Cincinnati, Ohio. Born on March 1, 1941, in Mattoon, Illinois, James lived a life shaped by curiosity, craftsmanship, and a gentle humor that endeared him to everyone around him.
He spent 30 years as an electrical engineer with Channel 5 Cincinnati, where his sharp mind and steady hands kept complex systems running smoothly. Outside of work, he found joy in woodworking and tinkering with computers.
James was known for his wit and his love of telling jokes and playful stories, especially if he could pull someone’s leg. His family will forever remember his fondness for Ortega hot sauce on Angilo’s pizza and the warm, thoughtful way he’d say “Oh, ok” in his deep grandpa voice when he was listening closely. Though he had a reputation for being a bit of a hothead in his younger years, time softened him into an easygoing, steady presence.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Anna and Walter, and his sister, Mary Ann. He is survived by his wife, Sharon; his son, Donald; his daughter, Camilla; six grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life Service will be Friday, February 6, 2026, at 12:00 PM at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City with Bro. Blaine Fink officiating. Burial in Rochester Cemetery.
