GREENVILLE – James Henry Jernigan, 88, of Greenville, died Thursday, November 12, 2020 at Riverside Nursing Home in Calhoun. Born July 14, 1932, in Muhlenberg County. He was a retired prospect driller for Peabody Coal Co., a U.S. Army veteran and attended Sharon General Baptist Church. He loved to ride horses, and buy and sell cars. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Myrtle Lofthouse, Lucy Ford, and Hazel Webster; brothers George Jernigan, Jewell Jernigan, Roy Jernigan, Gilbert Jernigan, Howard Jernigan, Bobby Jernigan, and Gene Jernigan; parents Shell and Mable Foley Jernigan; and wife Lucille Rager Jernigan.
Survivors include his children, Mike Jernigan (Donna Brown) of Greenville, Robbi (David) Hill of Greenville, Suzy (David) Duryea of Spring Hill, Fla., and Rodney (Terry) Jernigan of Cape Coral, Fla.; grandchildren Brittany Hill Branson, Gavin (Ashley) Hill, Natalie (Charlie) Fuller, and Aaron (Anna) Jernigan; great-grandchildren Nathan, Lane, and Quinn Branson, Dylan Hill, and Elena Fuller; sisters Janice Grace and Betty Benningfield; brothers Lannie Jernigan and Wendell Jernigan and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Saturday, November 14, 2020, at 2:00 p.m. at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City, with Rev. Darren Pentecost officiating. Burial will follow in Friendship Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday after 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Family and friends who are attending the visitation or funeral service are asked to wear a face mask for the safety of all those in attendance, in accordance with the governor’s mandate.
