HOUSTON, Tex. – Howard Franklin, “Sonny” Harkins, Jr., 29, passed away August 15, 2025, in Houston, Tex.
Born October 25, 1945, in Greenville, Howard lived a life marked by service and dedication. He pursued his education with determination, earning a Bachelor of Science degree from Murray State University, and later a Master of Science degree from the University of South Florida.
He proudly served his country for five years in the United States Army. Rising to the rank of Captain, he was a Vietnam veteran and was awarded the Bronze Star for his service, a testament to his courage and commitment during a challenging time in American history.
Howard was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church in the Woodlands, Tex. His connection to his church community reflected the values that guided him throughout his life.
Survivors include a sister, Joy Baker (Allen) of Houston, Tex., a brother, Dan Harkins (Mary Jane), and several nieces and nephews.
May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him and honor to the legacy he leaves behind. Visitation will be at Gary’s Funeral Home on Saturday, August 23 at 1:00 p.m. with graveside service at Evergreen Cemetery at 2:30 p.m.
