Hollis G. Hancock, Sr., 99, of Greenville, died Wednesday, December 27, 2023 at Heartford House in Owensboro. Born June 20, 1924 in Powderly, the son of Gurden James Hancock and Bertha Mae Cobb. He was a business owner in Greenville, the proprietor of Greenville Pool Hall and Greenville Ice Company. He was an Army veteran in World War II, having received two Bronze Stars, and he also served in the Korean War.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Margaret Lee Vick Hancock, and his second wife Mary Lou Dukes Wells Hancock, his son Hollis Hancock, Jr., a son-in-law Delbert Willis, and a grandson Ricky Gregory.
Survivors include two daughters Mary Ethel Willis of Jacksonville, Fla., and Debbie (Kurt) Reesman of Auburn Ala.; eight grandchildren Wilda (Rick) Caudle, Lori Cheanvechai, Jeff (Donna) Willis, Jacque (Mark) Fuller, Ami (Shannon) Vincent, Brian (Julie) Hancock, Emily (Micah) Brake, and Michelle Gregory; twenty-five great grandchildren; eleven great-great grandchildren; two step-daughters Karen (Bobby) Noffsinger of Greenville, and Renita Wells of Greenville; and one brother Jerry (Linda) Hancock of Powderly.
Private graveside services will be held at Evergreen Cemetery in Greenville. Gary’s Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Online condolences to the family may be made at www.garysfuneralhome.net
