Louisville – Helen Taylor Kuhn passed away peacefully in her sleep at home early in the morning of July 24, 2021 at the age of 92. Born as Helen Ruth Thompson on August 17, 1928 in Marion Ky. At the end of World War II, Helen moved to Frankfort with her parents, and best friend Dottie Babb Perkins, where she met her husband Tom, his twin brother Charles, and her other best friend and sister-in-law Mary McDonald Taylor. The couple made their home in Louisville and two children, Kelly and Janet, were born. They lived there until 1960 when they moved to Tom’s hometown of Greenville, where they lived until Tom passed away in 1985. Helen moved to Louisville after Tom’s passing and met and married Ralph Kuhn.
Helen was called Nan by her grandchildren and their friends, and was an excellent hostess. She was known for “Helen’s Hotel,” where many loved ones could count on a comfortable room for a night or longer, and a full breakfast, even if they had a flight early in the morning. Helen made everyone in the family feel special. She loved to welcome newcomers as a valued part of the group. She taught love, kindness, acceptance, and self-care to all of her friends and family. She led an active life and loved to travel and try new things. Into her 80’s, she was referred to as “The Energizer Bunny,” delivering Meals on Wheels and participating in bridge club and services at St. Paul Methodist church. She was preceded in death by her parents Clarence and Edith Thompson, her husband Tom Taylor, her sisters Hazel and Lucille, her brothers Don and Trice, her second husband Ralph Kuhn, and her son-in-law Mike Leitner.
Survivors include her daughter Janet Taylor Leitner, her son Kelly Taylor (Kathy), her grandchildren Katie and Ty (Colleen) Leitner, Jennifer (Brian) Delling, Scott, Laura, and Kevin (Baishakhi) Taylor, great-grandchildren Diya and Riley Taylor, Hazel and Warren Leitner, Carter and Adelise Delling, and step-children Sandy Stich (Terry), Sue Gough, Ellen (Lloyd) Jones, John Kuhn (Kathy), and Marion (Syd) Weedon.
Visitation will be Wednesday, July 28th from 3-8 p.m. at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Rd with a memorial service at 5 p.m. on Wednesday at the Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Greenville at a later date.
Helen requested donations be made to St. Paul United Methodist Portland Promise Center or Home of the Innocents.
