George R. Martin, Jr., 89, passed away peacefully, Monday July 10, surrounded by his family. George was born in Greenville, and moved to Daytona Beach with his wife Anne Dunn Martin when they purchased the Del-Aire Motel in 1959. They owned and operated the motel for over 40 years, receiving recognition and awards for their high level of customer care and well-kept appearance.
George graduated from Admiral Farragut Academy in St. Petersburg and then attended Georgia Tech, Purdue and University of Kentucky. After college, he served two years in the Army in Alaska earning recognition as a rifle sharpshooter.George enjoyed traveling with his wife Anne, spending time with his kids and grandkids, and really enjoyed life. He also was a longtime member of Oceanside Country Club, where he enjoyed spending “happy hours” with friends.
Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Anne; his son Tommy Martin of Atlantic Beach; daughter Jan Martin Brock (Jeff) of Ormond Beach; granddaughters Lindsay Anne Brock, Mandy Dunn Brock and Casey Martin Brock; sisters Elizabeth Martin of Chapel Hill, N.C. and Mary Martin Rogers (James L. III), of Vero Beach, Fla.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Oceanside Country Club for family and friends on Friday July 14, 2023 from 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to The ARC of Volusia Daytona Beach at 100 Jimmy Huger Circle, Daytona Beach, FL 32117, or to the Michael J.
