DRAKESBORO – Freddy “Fred” McFarland, 69, of Drakesboro, died Sunday, April 10, 2022, at Owensboro Health Muhlenberg Community Hospital. Born July 10, 1952, in Drakesboro, he was a graduate of Drakesboro High School, Class of 1970. Fred was a “jack of all trades” and master of none. He was a 2nd degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do, a 1st degree black belt in Korean Tae Kwon Do, and an instructor in the county for several years. He was retired from Field Packaging and currently employed at Muhlenberg County Job Corps.
Fred was of the Baptist faith and attended New Paradise Baptist Church. He was your typical “tough guy” with a heart of gold. He was always ready to lend a helping hand and feed an army with his home cooked meals. Fred loved his church, serving the Lord and his community, but above all else his grandkids were everything to him. He took so much pride in his family and time spent with them.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Marion “Cutie” and Elsie Mae McFarland; brothers, Mitchell, Jewel, Marion “Budgie”, Jerry, and Doug; sisters, Emma Soule and Sandra Stamper; and son-in-law, Louie Armstrong.
Survivors include his loving wife of 40 years, Brenda Kay Underwood McFarland; daughter, Christina Armstrong; sons, Freddy (Shanon) McFarland, Daniel (Samantha) McFarland, and Brendan (Ashley) McFarland; grandchildren, Jessica (Josh) Tucker, Courtney Kelly, Cyler McFarland, Kenly McFarland, Royce McFarland, and Novalynn McFarland; great-granddaughters, Madyson Tucker, Olivia Tucker, and Harper Tucker; and sisters, Vonnelda (Joe) Studer, Brenda (Mike) Rice, and Carolyn Orange.
