Evelyn Josephine Mohon Wester, 104, of Drakesboro, died Monday, November 20, 2023 at her residence. Born September 14, 1919 in Gardena, Calif, the daughter of Lucillius Averitt Mohon and Lola Ann Goodwin Mohon. She was a member of Drakesboro United Methodist Church and had graduated from Hughes-Kirk High School in 1937.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three spouses Harry Dare, Hubert Starns, and Dennis “Peg” Wester; two children Suzanne Dare (Dennis) Wylie and Steven R. Dare; two brothers Lucillius Averitt Mohon, Jr. and James Maxwell Mohon; two sisters Sarah Elizaberh Mohon Cook, and Sue Dell Mohon Mathews Parker, and three nephews Alfred Mohon Cook, Jr., Richard Mohon, and Fleming Berry Mathews.
Survivors include one granddaughter Renee Wylie (Eric) Bekkelund of Manor, Texas; two great granddaughters Liberty and River Bekkelund; one nephew David Mohon (Martha) Cook of Forney, Texas; five nieces Mary Ann Mathews Baker and Pamela Sue Duffy of Dallas, Texas, Georgia Ann Mohon (Phil) Allen, Sara Kathleen Mohon (Dennis) Brinley, and Nancy Lynn Mohon (Paul) Sims of Louisville; many cousins, including Judith Brown LaFlare who cared for her since 2008 after the death of her husband and Justin Lee Hawkins, who called her Grandma; other loving caregivers Doris Ann Cook, Tracy Brooks Warner, Tammy Dukes, Roxanne Cottrell, Joy Johnston, and Molly Kate Cook.
There will be no service or visitation. Gary’s Funeral Home in Greenville is in charge of arrangements.
