Evalyn (Harper) Stobaugh, 86, died Wednesday, January 3, 2024 at the Heritage Center. Born and raised in Bremen, Evalyn was one of 16 children. She married the love of her life, Maxwell Stobaugh, at a young age and raised two children while working for many years as an elevator operator at the Hulman Building in Evansville. She and Maxwell then retired to the Stobaugh family homeplace in 1990 and lived happily until his passing in 2014. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Maxwell, her daughter, Wanda Pegram, and grandson, Jeremy Pegram.
Despite the many challenges throughout her life, Evalyn had a bubbly, open spirit and an infectious laugh. Some of her greatest joy was found in her grandchildren, all things Christmas, and old-time country music. She will be sorely missed by her son Steve Stobaugh (Sally Kroeger), and grandchildren Jenna Lillibridge (Jim), Jillian and Jessica Pegram, Kayla Stobaugh (Tyler Melchior), Connor Stobaugh (Amelia Brown), three great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A graveside service will be held at a later date. If you are so inclined, please honor her memory by singing a song, planting a flower or cuddling a baby.
