Dr. Barton K. “Bart” Spurlin

The family of Dr. Barton K. “Bart” Spurlin invites you to join them in celebrating his life and the countless lives he touched. Please join us on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, from 5:00–7:00 p.m. CST at Thistle Cottage, 122 South Cherry Street, Greenville, Kentucky.

Bart was born on July 13, 1976, to Kim and Gaylan Spurlin. He was welcomed by his grandparents Ernestine and L.C. Spurlin, and June and Kenneth Wininger, and joined eight years later by his sister Audra Spurlin Dorroh.

Bart’s curiosity, compassion, and creativity were evident from an early age. Whether tending a greenhouse full of tomato plants to sell from the front yard, caring for injured animals, or spending time with his grandmother at Thistle Cottage, he approached life with an inquisitive mind and a generous heart. A devoted reader and gifted problem solver, Bart loved learning, building, repairing, and creating.

After graduating from Muhlenberg North High School in 1994, Bart attended the University of Louisville, where he earned his undergraduate and medical degree. His passion for learning presented him the opportunity to study in France and England, to serve in a remote village in Peru and participate in an archaeological dig. Every experience deepened his appreciation for people, cultures, and service.

Bart married the love of his life, Amy Alexander, (the little red-haired girl he first fell for in the fifth grade). Together they shared nearly 28 wonderful years of marriage. Creating a home and raising their three amazing children Alec, Ethan, and Amelia was paramount to him. Family was the center of Bart’s life, and he cherished every moment with those he loved.

As an ER physician, Bart combined an exceptional intellect with remarkable kindness. He was meticulous in his pursuit of the right diagnosis, yet never lost sight of the person behind the illness. He had a rare gift for making complex medicine understandable and for making every patient feel heard, respected, and cared for. His gentle spirit, humility, and unwavering compassion earned the admiration of patients, colleagues, students and friends alike. He truly received a calling to medicine, answered the call, and remained faithful to his craft.

Above all, Bart was a loving son, brother, husband, father, physician, and friend. His legacy is found not only in his accomplishments, but in the countless lives he touched through his generosity, wisdom, and quiet kindness.

Please join Bart’s family and friends as they celebrate a life that was lived with purpose, curiosity, compassion, and love.
