Dorris Ann Knight Tucker, 84, of Lexington, formerly of Morganfield, passed away Tuesday, December 27, 2022 at UK Albert B. Chandler Hospital in Lexington. Born March 2, 1938 to the late Clyde Nelson Knight and Maltie Reynolds Knight in Beech Creek, she was an active member of First Baptist Church in Morganfield where she served as a Sunday school teacher, working in ladies’ ministries, kitchen activities, mission events, and a preschool volunteer. Dorris was also an active member of the Gideons International Auxiliary. She served as an active member of Kentucky Campers on Mission involved in building churches and conducting on site ministries such as Bible school, etc.
In her previous roles before retiring, she spent several years with the Morganfield Job Corps in the Personnel Department and Safety Director. Prior to that she served with different law firms in administrative roles as well as with public school counseling departments.
She was a devoted wife and mother always caring for the family. Along with her husband, she viewed their working careers as their family careers. Dorris was very involved and known throughout the state for her support and service with the Kentucky Retired Teacher’s Association. Her strongest asset was Christian love and service; not just for her own family but for her church family as well.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Clyde Nelson Knight and Maltie Reynolds Knight; her daughter-in-law, Rebecca “Becky” Atkins Tucker; her brothers, O’Donover Knight, Billy Richardson Knight, and Hubert Carral “Jimmy” Knight.
Survivors include her husband:, Neal Ray Tucker of Morganfield; sons:, Neal Ray Tucker II of Lexington, Brian Keith Tucker of Lexington, and Jeffrey Scott Tucker of Indianapolis, Ind.; grandsons:, Lucas “Luke” Bryant Tucker of Lexington, and Noah Gray Tucker of Lexington; sister, Shirley Sue Knight Vanlandingham of Evansville, Ind.; nieces, Pamala Denise Knight Majors of Evansville, Ind., Connie Faye Knight of Evansville, Ind., Sharon Gail Vanlandingham Dean of Evansville, Ind., Deveta Ann Vanlandingham Miller of Evansville, Ind., and Lisa Renea Vanlandingham Russell of Evansville, Ind.; nephews, Kevin Knight of Evansville, Ind., Michael Knight of Evansville, Ind., and Timathy Knight of Evansville, Ind.
Funeral service will be Monday, January 2, 2023 at 12:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Morganfield. Rev. Cole Cavin will officiate. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the church.
