SARASOTA, Fla. – Donnie Chumley, 76, of Sarasota, FL, died Wednesday, July 3, 2024 at Tidewell Hospice House in Sarasota after a short illness.
Born June 25, 1948 in Greenville, to the late Charles D. Chumley and Audrey Burke Chumley (Mullen). Donnie was a Hughes Kirk High School graduate and served in the United States Air Force. He was a Vietnam Veteran. Donnie retired from Peabody Mine #10 in Illinois. He was employed by Neuro Restorative, where he served as a driver and loved being around the staff and most of the clients. Donnie loved spending time with friends and family. He loved all sports, especially UK Wildcats Basketball. He adored and was adored by their dog, Frankie. Donnie had a talkative personality and never met a stranger. He loved talking to people. He insisted on being on time for everything and shared with family that he was at peace and ready to go.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Charles Chumley, Jr. and Freddie Chumley, his sister Judy Poteat and his in-laws Buford and Sybil Johnson (Broderick).
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Donna Johnson Chumley, son Allen (Tina) and granddaughter Hannah Chumley of Carmel, Ind., brother Randall (Ernie Murphy) of Venice, Fla., sisters Sharon Knight of Drakesboro, and Anita (Penny) Porter of Dunmor; brother-in-law Mike Johnson of Crofton and several nieces and nephews.
