Carlos B. Embry, Jr.

State Senator Carlos B. Embry Jr., “C. B.”, 81, of Morgantown, passed away Thursday, Sept. 29, 2022 at the Hospice House of Southern Kentucky. 

C. B. was born in Louisville on July 29, 1941 to the late Carlos B. Sr. and Zora Romans Embry.   He was a member of the Morgantown First Baptist Church, a retired teacher, newspaper editor, businessman and public official.   He has been elected 12 times to five different offices; Mayor of Beaver Dam (1 term), Judge of Ohio County Court (1 term), Ohio County Judge/Executive (2 terms), 17th District State Representative representing Butler, Grayson and parts of Hardin and Warren Counties (6 terms) and was serving his second term (4 years) as 6th District State Senator representing Muhlenberg, Hopkins, Ohio and Butler Counties.  He graduated from Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green in 1963.  He took advance classes at UK, Duke University, Kentucky Wesleyan College and the University of Louisville.  He was the oldest member of the State Senate and Chairman of two legislation committees.  During his lifetime he has been elected president or chairman of 18 different local, regional or state-wide organizations.  In 1975, Chairman of the National Republican Party and future United States President, George H. Bush presented him with the Outstanding Young Republican in the Nation Award.

He was preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter Heather Denise West and half-sister Jane Carol Hardwick.

C.B. is survived by his wife of 60 years, Wanda Lou Ralph Embry of Morgantown; children Laura Ann West of Centertown, Barbie Embry of Olaton and Carlos B. Embry III (Darlena) of Olaton; grandchildren Meredith Embry, Carlos B. Embry IV “Brock”, Roy Dale West Jr., April Nicole Laughlin (Travis); great grandchildren Carlos B. Embry V “Cash”, Asa Wayne Embry.

Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, Oct. 8, 2022 at 11AM at Smith Funeral Home with Bro. Greg Wallace and Dr. Lee Watts officiating. Burial will be held in the Sunnyside Cemetery in Beaver Dam.  A Masonic Service will be held on Friday, Oct. 7 at 6 PM presented by the Cassia Masonic Lodge #272, Morgantown.  Visitation will be held on Friday, Oct. 7 from 4 to 8 PM and Saturday from 9 to 11AM at Smith Funeral Home.
