GREENVILLE – Bill Donnie Simpson, 66, of Greenville, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, July 13, 2024 in Waynesville, N.C. Born November 24, 1957, in Portland, Ore. to the late Faye Algy and Mildred Perry Simpson.
In addition to his parents, Bill is preceded in death by two brothers, Patrick Wayne Simpson and Lynwood “Sonny” Otwell; and a great-grandson, Waylen James Buchanan. He cared very passionately about his family and was always a person who could be depended upon. Bill was everyone’s protector and was always going out of his way to put the needs of others first. He was a member of Rosewood Community Church in Greenville and a faithful Christian. With a loving heart, Bill served as the church-handyman and was crucial in its upkeep. He devoted many years to TVA as a scaffolding foreman, until he retired in 2019. Bill had a huge heart and will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
Survivor include his beloved wife of nearly five years, Karen Garrett Simpson; two daughters, Robin Buchanan (John) of Elkton and Amy Beth Atkins of Madisonville; a son, Ryan Edward Simpson of the home; one brother, Johnnie Simpson of Powderly; five sisters, Imogene Cowing Methany of Central City, Doris Ann Quisenberry of Lewisburg, Mary Wood (Buddy) of Midland, Rex., Betty Flanagan (Curtis) of Stanton, Tex. and Linda Sutton of Waynesville, N.C; three grandchildren, Jonathan Buchanan (Jasmine) of Kirkmansville, Andrea Turner (Austin) of Elkton, and Gracelynn Atkins; and a great-granddaughter, Shaylynn Grace Turner.
A Funeral Services were held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, July 20, 2024, at Smoky Mountain Chapel in Clyde, NC with Joseph Wade Sutton officiating. A burial followed the service at Sutton Town Cemetery. Jamie Sutton, Wade Sutton, Nathan Franklin, Brian Ripley, Lonnie Smith, Dan Messer, Curtis Flanagan, and Mike Burgess served as pallbearers.
