Betty Sue Wakeland

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Betty Sue Wakeland, 95, of Evansville, IN passed away Thursday, May 7, 2026. She was born March 15, 1931 in  Louisville, Kentucky to John McReynolds “Mack” Newman and Mary Belle “Bebel” (Williams) Newman.

Betty Sue loved spending time with her family, playing games, going to the movies, listening to gospel music and playing the piano.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Harold Coomes Wakeland on October 15, 2010; her daughter, Cindy Kaye Williams on February 22, 1997; and great granddaughter, Destanie Kaye.

Betty is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Sherri Wakeland; granddaughter, Autumn Kaye Hite (James); great-grandchildren, Damon and Hannah; great-great grandchildren, Elijah and Jason Ray; and nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday May 19th, 2026 at Alexander East Chapel, 2115 Lincoln Avenue, Evansville, IN, officiated by Rev. Bessie Adams with entombment at Oak Hill Cemetery.  

Family and friends may visit on Monday from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. and on Tuesday from 12:00 p.m. until service time at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Salem United Methodist Church.

Condolences may be offered at www.AlexanderEastChapel.com.
